Your central heating system is one of the most important systems in your home, so it’s important to look after it all year round!

A Powerflush is an effective method of removing deposits of sludge, corrosion and other fragments from your central heating system.

What can happen if I don’t have a Powerflush?

If left, the debris inside your central heating system can dramatically impact the efficiency of the system and a Powerflush clean by one of our plumbers could be the only solution.

Over time, the water in your central heating system produces and deposits by-products such as rust. As well as rust, your system will also fill up with sludge – a mud-like build up of dirt and debris which can cause blockages as well as corrosion.

If your pipes and boiler start to corrode, your central heating system will become less efficient and potentially break down completely. To avoid this from happening in your home, we recommend carrying out a regular Powerflush by our trained team of plumbers.

How often should I have a Powerflush?

Thankfully, a Powerflush only really needs to be undertaken every 5-years or so, providing you carry out regular servicing and maintenance on your central heating system. Despite this recommendation, the length of time between Powerflushes depends entirely on your central heating system and the elements used within it.

It is also recommended to have a Powerflush before the installation of a new boiler system to prevent it from being contaminated by the existing sludge and rust in your current pipes.

How do I know if I need a Powerflush?

Aside from calling one of our friendly plumbers in your local area, there are several signs your central heating system will give you to indicate you may need a Powerflush:

– Your heating may be very slow to warm up
– Your radiators are either leaking or are being noisier than usual
– The water from your taps is cloudy
– Your radiators have cold spots on them when you touch them
– When you bleed your radiators there is either no water at all, or the water is discoloured

These are just some of the factors you can look out for to indicate that a Powerflush may be needed. To be certain about whether you need a Powerflush, email us or call us today!
