Rising energy costs have been a concern for a while, but recently they have skyrocketed and left many of us feeling exceptionally stressed. In fact, more than half of annual energy costs are spent just on heating which makes boiler efficiency an integral part of any household.

The thing is, a new boiler could end up saving you money. Yes, they can be expensive to get them installed and the initial costs might seem high but it’s the long-term savings that make it worth the hassle. Let’s break it down and see how you can save some extra cash.

Saving Money with Energy Ratings

Energy ratings are everywhere now, and they are actually very important. They tell us how efficient appliances are and that includes boilers. The efficiency of your boiler tends to be determined by its age as well as its type. Naturally, older boilers tend to be less efficient.

The efficiency is rated using a percentage system which works alongside the A-G ranking you’re probably familiar with. So, an A rating is 90% efficiency whereas a G rating indicated 70% efficiency. As of 2018, all new boilers that are installed must have a minimum efficiency of 90%.

When you use a boiler that is more energy-efficient, you will end up saving money on your energy bills. While the initial cost of the boiler can be high, the amount of money you will save in the future is absolutely worth the expense.

New Boiler Options for Energy Efficiency

Having the right model for your home and your needs is vital when keeping your costs as low as possible. There are three boiler options for maximum energy efficiency:

  • Combi Boiler These heat water on demand, which saves energy and makes them incredibly cost-effective. Not the greatest option for large households though.
  • Conventional Boiler > This is the most common option seen in homes. They are easy to replace and correct choice of cylinder these are ideal for larger families.
  • System Boiler > These are ideal for upgrading to sealed systems where the cylinder is to remain in operation.  They incorporate the main components of the combi boiler but are used to heat the cylinder and radiators. A good option all round no matter size of property.

A new boiler really can save you money on your energy bills, and once they hit ten years old it really is time to replace them. With new models being exceptionally energy-efficient and promising more cost-effective running, boiler replacement is an easy choice to make.
